Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United just half a year after starting disrespectful songs targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a contract joining the second-tier strugglers until January. His lengthy spell with Leeds finished amicably this past summer.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead insulting chants about Chris Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Currently, the former England player will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to lift his beloved club away from the relegation zone.
Both men had history before Leeds moved up to the Premier League the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager described the forward as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
All seems has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost in attack and Bamford looking to resurrect his career.
The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Chris Wilder stated back then: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no problem at all with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow pro! However I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel too and we had a longer discussion together and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Bamford featured in 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough player has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
