No Kieran McKenna Celtic FC Discussions as Bellamy Commits to Welsh National Team

Both are being considered with the manager's job at the Premiership title holders following the former manager's resignation on the start of the week.

McKenna's Stance on The Scottish Club

McKenna referred to the Glasgow giants as "a really big soccer institution" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Portman Road in recent years and led them to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only four games last season as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy twelfth place in England's second tier.

"There have been any of those discussions," the London-born former Irish youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my concentration is this week.

"I have a special position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important phase of the season. Everything external hasn't touched my radar."

Background and Contractual Aspects

Reports indicate that McKenna would be open to speaking to Celtic given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about those. "I don't think everyone has to go around and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a really big football club."

The coach signed a new multi-year deal in 2024 and was asked about his alleged buyout clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he responded. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I approach this job like I'll be Town's coach forever. I know that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I'll always do my best as long as I remain in position."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker represented Celtic on loan from the Magpies in 2005, but the former Wales forward is minded to finish the ongoing global tournament qualification, a position that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from assuming the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are presently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers Belgium and runners-up Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in November would book their position in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually guaranteed of reaching that stage, thanks to a successful Nations League performance, should they not finish as Group J second place.

Given his current position, the Wales manager, whose agreement concludes after the European Championship, would not be available until following the play-offs at the earliest.
